Abstract:
Note: This article calls for a review and reevaluation, from a strategic vantage point, of the role of foreign trade in our national economy. It advances the view that foreign trade ought to serve primarily as a lever in stimulating rapid development of our national economy, and that the leverage effect lies in the creation of favorable conditions for the development of the national economy. Assuming that foreign trade will play such a role, the article suggests raising the ratio of foreign trade to our gross national product so as to accelerate the pace of our modernization.
