On the Development of China's Foreign Trade

Abstract:
China is pursuing an open-door policy in its foreign trade. It is not an expedient stratagem, but a strategic decision consistent with the trend of historical development and with the objective economic laws. The rate and scale of growth of the country's foreign trade must be in line with its economic capability and its material conditions. China must maintain a certain rate of growth and at the same time achieve economic results. To do this, the country should pay attention to three sets of ratios: the rate of exports should grow faster than the rate of imports, the rate of growth of exports of manufactured goods should grow faster than that of primary products, and the value of exports should grow faster than the volume of exports.
