The Characteristics of the Liberalization of International Service Trade

Lu Yan

Chinese Economy, 2000, vol. 33, issue 6, 16-27

Abstract: It was not until the 1970s that the idea of "service trade" was proposed and generally accepted as an independent and separate concept [in the field of international commerce]. Since then, however, the international service trade has grown by leaps and bounds; not only has it developed into one of the three largest sectors of global trade, but in doing so it has created a wide-open space for the economic development of countries around the globe and has become a major index of the overall standard and level of economic growth for every nation in the world.
