Abstract: At this point, it looks as if China's joining the World Trade Organization (WTO) is only a matter of time. Joining the WTO is, unquestionably, a "double-edged sword" Challenge will always accompany opportunity. So, what sort of impact will joining the WTO have on the problem of employmentâor, should we say, the problem of unemploymentâwhich is clearly the most significant social problem confronting China in the new century? In recent years, academics have approached and discussed this question in various ways.
