Perceived Employability During the COVID-19 Pandemic in Greater Bay Area (GBA) of China

Abstract: COVID-19 affected Chinese economy negatively in a significant manner. One important stakeholder of the economy is the university students entering the job market. This study aims to explore how bad the economic condition during COVID was from the perspective of perceived employability of university students. Using an initial survey of 432 students and a subsequent survey on 435 students from two universities in Hong Kong during the 2021-2022 period, we explore the level of negative economic impact COVID on society in the GBA region of China. The study provides insights on how universities and industries can better prepare students for the labor market during and after the pandemic. The results also prove valuable insight to policymakers and educators in formulating effective strategies to support students to enter the labor market in times of adversity.
