Land, Wine, and Trade: The Transition of the Romanian Wine Sector

Nivelin Noev

Eastern European Economics, 2007, vol. 45, issue 3, 76-114

Abstract: This paper analyzes the development of the Romanian wine sector over the past fifteen years, paying special attention to farm restructuring, development of grape and wine output, and changes in wine trade flows. We show how reforms negatively affected the performance of wine processors and grape growers and how they have caused changes in the vine and industry ownership structure, wine consumption, wine output, wine policies, product differentiation, and wine trade flows.
