Conflict Resolution: A Key to the Interpretation of John R. Commons's Intellectual Journey
Philippe Broda
Journal of Economic Issues, 2013, vol. 47, issue 4, 855-872
Abstract:
This article argues that Commons's approach to conflict resolution sheds light on the evolution of his point of view. In the first part of his career, Commons placed his hopes in state intervention. After 1901, he ascribed a central role to alternative dispute resolution (ADR), especially collective bargaining. Later, in a third sequence, he returned to the state and law as means to reduce social conflicts.
