Abstract:
The study reports the result of quasi-experimental research carried out among 400 Indian artisan households consisting of 150 microfinance borrowers as a treated group and 250 non-borrowers as a controlled group to find whether microfinance lending leads to women empowerment in an average artisan household. Using the Propensity Score Matching technique (PSM) followed by 1:1 Nearest Neighborhood Matching and finally applying Probabilistic Regression, it was found that women belonging to the treated group are more likely to head the family entrepreneurial activity and participate more actively in household decision-making along with having access to better health and sanitation facilities as compared to the women in the controlled group.
