The Balance Sheet of the Yakuza Business
Hiroshi Takeuchi
Japanese Economy, 1986, vol. 15, issue 2, 49-65
Abstract:
Among economic activities, the highest rates of return are earned by unlawful trades. Many illegal trades pertain to goods and services, such as narcotics and prostitution, whose production and sales are legally prohibited. The demand for them is so entrenched that their prices are boosted to such a level that high rates of return result on their production and sales. Therein lies the main income source of the Yakuzas.
