Abstract:
It is a well-acknowledged fact that deregulation and globalization have been major trends in the Japanese financial system in the 1980s, but the expression "financial globalization" can be used to contain at least the following five meanings or aspects: (1) increase in overseas transactions in overall financial dealings; (2) globalization from the point of view of residents; (3) globalization or deregulation from the point of view of nonresidents; (4) elevation to an international financing center; and (5) internationalization of the currency (namely, yen).
