The Japanese-Style System of Market Economy

Eisuke Sakakibara

Japanese Economy, 1991, vol. 20, issue 1, 3-56

Abstract: My main thesis is that the Japanese-style system of market economy is characterized by (1) the big business sector and (2) the public sector. In what follows, I would like to synthesize the existing literature and make a brief sketch of the big business sector, which was the driving force of Japan's rapid economic growth.
