Abstract:
In 1980, I prepared a paper entitled The Japanese Economy at a Crossroads and presented it to the Interuniversity Seminar on Modern Japan (Columbia University) in April 1981. My prediction at that time that Japan was at a crossroads was ten years too early. Wisely (in hindsight), I did not publish the paper.
