Abstract:
The watershed in Japan's modern economic growth was from 1937 to 1951. The first half,1 1937-45, was the war era, which banged with an ignominious end to the prewar growth. The second half, 1945-51, was a start of the reconstruction from the ashes of the war, and marks the beginning of the postwar growth. We examine the period in two parts.
