Abstract:
Dennis Vanden Auweele. Exceeding Reason: Freedom and Religion in Schelling and Nietzsche. Reviewed by Pedro Nagem de Souza. Dennis Vanden Auweele’s book has the rare merit of reconciling a rigorous and focused reading of classical philosophers with a genuine philosophical proposal. As a historian of philosophy, he tries to recover the meaning of his source’s thoughts in their context. And as a philosopher himself, he absorbs them as predecessors while trying to respond to a legitimate contemporary concern.
