Abstract:
Within the combination of legal realtions regarding navigation, the ship has been gradually accepted all over the world as a responsible economic unit, in other words, there is a personification of the ship. Economic independence of the ship allowed creation of the legal law of pledge on the ship. In maritime law there are difficulties which are only partially resolved by unification, i.e. by adopting unique norms of substantive law in certain fields. The paper discusses the importance of insurance of shippers in terms of business success of maritime companies. It is started from the hypothesis that the unification of maritime law has contributed to a high level of legal security of shippers' insurance. The above hypothesis is verified in the paper.
