Lecture, Leisure, and Learning: Teaching Economic Development Abroad in India

Abstract: Nearly every college and university has a travel abroad program that students are encouraged to take advantage. There is a great deal of literature regarding studying abroad, but very little information on how to design an undergraduate study-travel economic course. This paper attempts to bridge this divide by tying insights from the travel abroad literature to my experience teaching economic development in India. The development course taught in India can be seen as a course with a lab component. This article describes what was done during a recent economic development course in India and reflects on what could be done in the future.
