Abstract:
In this survey we want to summarize the main results obtained by the literature in the analysis of price cap regulation. After almost ten years since its first application in public utilities' regulation, it's possible to identify some general features of this regulatory scheme in terms of efficiency and flexibility. Anyway there are yet some controversial aspects of this type of regulation, in particular about its indirect effects on competition, its global efficiency and its application in the regulation of the access. These are all issues on which it will be important to concentrate future researches.
