Research Evaluation: the Dangers of Bibliometric Indexes
Lorenzo Infantino
L'industria, 2009, issue 3, 395-402
Abstract:
Nowadays, assessment of research is a critical step in the recruitment process of academic personnel. Bibliometric indexes have been proposed as the optimal solution to evaluate researchers' work and merits. The debate concerns the ability of those indexes to synthesize merits; it will probably continue for a long time. This paper aims to offer some critical consideration to the current discussion.
