Towards the Reshape of the Large Retail Chains: The Conad-Auchan Merger

Abstract:
The article critically analyses the Conad acquisition of Auchan. The operation is scrutinisedwithin the broader competitive context concerning the large retail chains processof change. In this perspective, the phase II clearance decision issued by the Italian competition authority is investigated emphasizing the partially new approach chosenin defining the relevant markets and in assessing the unilateral effects stemming fromthe merger.
