Italian audiovisual production and digital platforms: great opportunities and some risk

Giancarlo Leone

Economia della Cultura, 2021, issue 2, 307-309

Abstract: In the situation resulting from the fighting against COVID-19, a substantial boost have been given the changes in progress in the last few years at the consumer’ side of all the genres of Italian audiovisuals – movie, Tv series, documentary, animation, entertainment, etc.. These changes contributed to the increase of international platforms’ viewing public and role in Italy. This article highlights two facts: their investments in new productions are added to those of broadcasters’ (Rai, Mediaset, Sky) and their integration, even in shareholding, with Italian SMEs gives these great work and product qualification opportunities, as well as new problems, in terms of autonomy in cultural and companies’ choices, if the independent producers’ rights wouldn’t be not recognized.
