Notes for the Hearing of 8th Commission - Public Works, Communication - of the Senate of the Republic
Giulio Enea Vigevani
Economia della Cultura, 2021, issue 3, 421-425
Abstract:
The note is a reply to a question characterizing the eight draft laws under discussion in the Commission: «Which constitutional reasons may justify today that a public service company continue to exist in the new audiovisual media world?» The commentary, taking into account the most recent European experiences and the Council of Europe documents, underlines the idea that the European model of public service today constitutes a 'democratic guarantee' for the survival of national and local cultural specificities with respect to a homologating action of large platforms.
