Second welfare and culture: innovation and community to generate well-being

Economia della Cultura, 2023, issue Speciale, 53-60
Abstract:
The 2008 and pandemic crises have brought scholarly attention back to local contexts by investigating territorial welfare’s role and the actors’ actions that animate it. Demographic, ecological and digital transitions, generating new eco-social needs, contribute to redefining the responses traditionally provided by the public and private social sectors, encouraging the search for innovative and sustainable solutions traceable to the analytical framework of second welfare. The need to reduce and/or recalibrate public spending has been at the center of policy choices in recent decades. Recent crises have made it even more urgent to rethink how to deploy welfare resources by seeking to nurture unprecedented synergies, including areas such as culture. Such synergies are the object of analysis in this contribution.
