Protection and technologies. The Parco archeologico del Colosseo monitoring and maintenance system

Irma Della Giovampaola

Economia della Cultura, 2023, issue 3-4, 515-524

Abstract: The System for the Protection and Education of Archaeological Heritage, SyPEAH, a responsive WebGIS system based on open source software, is the result of the project of monitoring and maintenance of the Parco archeologico del Colosseo. By means of specially developed algorithms, the system aims to elaborate a qualitative and quantitative assessment of the vulnerability of the archaeological asset and thus to assess the risk of loss of the asset itself. The aim is to act on the archaeological structures before the phenomenon can negatively affect it. The system can manage the information present on the platform, namely: satellite data, images, IoT data, archaeological and historical data sheets, geological data, weeds, etc. The framework of this data is engineered to have a specific pattern that will support the decision-making phase of the management of maintenance activities.
