Lucia Marchegiani

Economia della Cultura, 2024, issue 2-3, 361-369

Abstract: This chapter introduces the section on the interplay between Education and Cultural Heritage, with a focus on the impact of digital technologies on education. The chapter explores how education in cultural heritage management must adapt to equip future professionals with the skills to integrate traditional conservation practices with cutting-edge digital technologies. It examines the potential for a unified European curriculum to standardize training, foster cross-border collaboration, and ensure that cultural heritage practices remain sustainable, inclusive, and innovative. The discussion highlights the current landscape of educational programs in Europe, with a particular focus on Italy's leadership in heritage studies and the varying levels of digital integration across institutions. Key themes include the ethical and philosophical dimensions of digital heritage, the role of participatory governance, and the importance of sustainability in digital preservation. By blending traditional expertise with digital fluency, this chapter outlines a vision for preparing the next generation of cultural heritage professionals to meet the challenges of a rapidly evolving global landscape.
