Abstract: The paper discusses the recent experience of the Italian Ministero per ibeni e le attività culturali, in the programming and funding of the projects in the cultural sector, based on the European Union structural funds guidelines. The paper stress the change in the Ministry mentality, traditionally grounded in the conservative policy, integrating it with the other social and economic objective of local development.
