Grandi edifici per la cultura e trasformazioni urbane

Federico Oliva

Economia della Cultura, 2006, issue 4, 457-468

Abstract: In modern city, it's more and more difficult to build public spaces ofgreat quality. The present town planning typologies are not able to define attractive spaces in which citizens identify themselves, as it happened in the past; a space that can't be compared with «ephemeral» spaces of metropolitan life. The transformation process inside cities and widespread on territory, typical of present development, feels this difficulty. The government of these processes has to be included in a general strategy, based on new centralities supported by a suitable mass mobility. In this overall strategy, carried out by new tools, different from the past, the big cultural utilities and public spaces in which they are located play an important role. This is proved by few recent cases.
