Abstract:
The MiBACT Directorate-General for landscape, fine arts, architecture and contemporary art (PaBAAC) is developing a contemporary art network in order to promote cultural exchanges and investments for future generations to face the global financial crisis. The book The Places of Contemporary Art in Italy (2012) shows that the contemporary art is being disseminated increasingly; however, even though many new museum or other institutions receive public funds there is no guarantee that they will stay up and running. In most cases, they fail and close. In this perspective, the Network represents a concrete opportunity for these various places of contemporary art to receive support. In the Southern Italy in particular, a Study for the network of places of contemporary art (2009-2011), promoted by PaBAAC, explains the importance of creating a database based platform that weaves data and information, scientific contents and services, communication plans and marketing activities, collections and events that will be shared through the Network.
