The intermediterranean cooperation in the field of music

Abstract: Cultural venues having become, in recent times, a strategic target for terrorists attacks, our counteroffensive should start also from them and from the related artistic activities. Music in particular, overcoming language barriers, can help to safeguard the migrant's cultural identities, thus fostering their inclusion in a different society. Some "best practices" of intercultural cooperation through music are highlighted: from Barenboim's West-Eastern Divan Orchestra, to the multicultural center El Teatro, led in Tunis by Zeyneb Farhat, up to the Coro Arcobaleno/Rainbow Choir created in 2014 at the Teatro Massimo di Palermo: a primary civic institution calling for migrant's children to sing together with the other children. As for future perspectives, changes in the international situation hampering the collaboration among the main cultural institutions, in particular in the musical field, more cooperation should be encouraged among smaller institutions, for fostering integration processes by means of daily, common artistic work.
