Cinema and Audiovisual in the Euromed public space. Challenges and critical points

Bruno Zambardino

Economia della Cultura, 2016, issue 1, 125-132

Abstract: Cinema and audiovisual play a decisive role in the difficult task of strengthening the cultural dialogue between the Mediterranean countries, through exchanges and joint projects. However, Europe does not seem fully aware of this opportunity, since it devotes few resources to the co-production. Despite the proliferation of events and festivals aimed at improving the Euro-Mediterranean inclusion, such as the Euromed Audiovisual Programme, it lacks a strategic vision involving the entire industry. On the contrary, a strategic view and a larger public engagement, as part of a media permanent Mediterranean Forum, would reduce the fragmentation of the projects. At the same time, it would allow the planning of activities and a cross-media training and it would provide incentives for coproduction and independent production.
