Back to the future? Democracy beyond the forms of political modernity

Abstract: The political debate of the last years has drawn the public attention to common goods; in Italy, particularly, for some time they occupy a remarkable semantic, cultural and polemic space, and the notion has become expression of common use now. The principal quality of this new reflection is to individualize a space of social research over the rigid separation of modern West between public and privacy, public and private ownership, individual (and society) and State, and over the narrow and unsatisfactory political perspective of contemporary capitalistic liberal democracies. A new research that, if it seems to have abandoned a traditional definition of common goods based on the identification of their intrinsic qualities and definition of the regimes of ownership, it looks at them as the pivot of democratic collective practices finalized to the promotion of new possible redistributive policies, through the protection of the common right to the access of social basic goods.
