Cultural heritage and landscape as determinants of well-being
Annalisa Cicerchia
Economia della Cultura, 2018, issue 4, 451-464
Abstract:
Based upon a targeted research project by the Italian National Statistical Institute started in 2010, Measures of equitable and sustainable well-being - BES, for Benessere Equo e Sostenibile -, the article investigates how cultural heritage and landscape have been included among the key dimensions and determinants of well-being in a «Beyond GDP» measurement effort. Conceived in the wake of the famed Stiglitz-Sen-Fitoussi Report (2009), connected to national and international efforts in the first decade of the 21st century to produce multidimensional and multi perspective measures of progress, BES is the first and remains to-date the only experiment worldwide to include cultural heritage and landscape among the selected determinants - domains - of well-being.
