Digital and cultural industry, there is room for collaboration

Enrico Bellini

Economia della Cultura, 2019, issue 2, 193-200

Abstract: This article extends the contribution provided during the workshop «Copyright and the web: culture, intellectual property rights, innovation in the digital economy» held at Università degli Studi Roma Tre on October 11th 2018 and in particular those concerning the key issue discussed: «Relations between digital industry and cultural industry: is there room only for conflict?». My view is that not only has the digital industry already created a great set of growth opportunities for the cultural industry per se, but the last years have been characterised by more and more collaboration between digital players and the cultural industry. I will highlight three examples of collaboration: to foster business opportunities, to foster innovation and to fight common battles (in particular, anti-piracy).
