Rivista italiana degli economisti, 2002, issue 3, 331-362
Abstract:
The article provides an analysis of some features of Italian Credit System. In particular, it focuses on a comparison of efficiency - in terms of costs, revenues and profits - of banks in Northern and Southern Italy using the balance sheet data set ABI from 1994 to 1998. In addition, in order to explain these different efficiency patterns across macro-regions, the authors take into account the impact of some environmental variables which describe macroeconomic conditions and regulation of banking industry.
