Beyond Remittances: Measures to promote financial inclusion of migrants in Italy

Abstract:
Having sufficient levels of savings, assets and pensions is central to being financiallyincluded and secure. Many minorities and migrants experience labour marketdisadvantage, including unemployment and low earnings. Consequently, many findit difficult to build savings, assets or a decent pension for retirement. This leavesthem vulnerable to the financial shocks and emergencies we all face and puts themat risk of poverty in retirement. This article starts from the market of remittancessent abroad by migrants and the correspondent legal framework - recently approvedat European level - to survey other measures of financial inclusion taken in Italy tomake better off the lives of migrants.
