Abstract:
This paper analyses the dynamics of intersectoral and interregional relationships in Italy over the decade 2000-2010. In particular, an interregional input-output model is presented to measure the intermediate links between manufacturing and market services from a territorial perspective. The analysis shows that the process of intersectoral integration concerns all areas and also involves the Southern regions, which are known to have a lower rate of industrialization. However, greater disparities emerge when we break down the data on the basis of the key partners in the exchange of goods and services. In this case, manufacturing in some Southern regions presents a higher degree of dependence on foreign countries for the supply of manufacturing inputs, while the relationship with the regions of the Centre-North is central as regards the exchange of market services.
