The Territorial Logistics Chains for Mezzogiorno's strategic re-launch

E. Forte and Lucio Siviero ()

Rivista economica del Mezzogiorno, 2011, issue 1-2, 147-190

Abstract: Freight logistics, as a productive sector of transport, warehousing and value added services for goods, may constitute an important developing lever for the strategic re-launch of the Mezzogiorno, only if planned considering the features and the economic and territorial potential of this region. In large areas of the Southern Italy production chains of excellence can be identified, especially in agro-food, hi-tech, engineering, aerospace, energy sectors and others that show development potential through the integration with value logistics for export. Processes of planning and governance of Southern territorial systems, promoting productive specialization and the creation of business networks strategically overlapped with territorial logistics chains, can be an anti-cyclical way to follow for a better integration, continuity, functional and organizational proximity of local logistics system in the global economy.
