The Economic Impact of Southern Italy Utilities

Abstract: This study investigates the impact exerted on the main economic aggregates(production, value added and employment) by a sample of utilities localised inthe South of Italy. The empirical results retrieved by the I-O model are furtherenriched by a descriptive analysis carried out on a set of selected balance sheetindicators. The study is particularly worthy of notice given the exceptional expansionexperimented by this division during the economic and financial crisis2009-2014. Among other findings, the analysis detects that increasing investmentsflows in the utilities sector would generate increasing positive impacts,mainly due to the serious shortage these companies show in their initial endowment.
