Abstract:
This contribution focuses on the Vajont Dam, an engineering masterpiece referred to as a paradigmatic case of the most tragic avoidable disaster, which occurred on the night of October 9, 1963. Forty years later, the area affected by this tragedy, thanks in part to survivors’ contribution and active participation, has been valorized and transformed into a place of memory and tourist destination. Through this study, the current research delves into the motivations, experiences, and emotions within the literature on memory tourism. More precisely, through one quantitative and one qualitative analysis, the role and connections between the main factors characterizing this niche of the tourist market are investigated.
