Most important competences for the management discipline in Colombia

Abstract: Based on results of the Tuning Latin-America Project, replicated in Colombia, this research identifies the 5 most important competencies according to the mean of perception from academicians and employers to be taken into account for the performance of administration professionals. Competencies are classified according to the philosophical foundations taking into account Bédard's approach of: ontological, axiological, epistemological and praxeological. This study uses a descriptive orientation on the construction of a ranking and applies statistical inference to determine the level of importance of competencies. Results show different perceptions between academicians and employers. Employers and academicians think that managers are oriented to the epistemology and praxeology, both for generic and specific competencies. It can be concluded that it is necessary to close the gap between the knowledge and praxis versus values and principles through education in higher education institutions.
