Economic Review, 2020, issue ii, 7-35

Abstract: Emerging market economies (EMEs) will not fulfil the same role of locomotive for the world economy throughout the COVID-19 crisis as they did at the time of the global financial crisis. EMEs have now been more severely impacted, by the pandemic itself and by multiple external shocks, and have less policy space to engineer a swift recovery.
