Les édits de pacification: une source originale pour l’histoire du parlement de Bordeaux au XVIe siècle

Abstract: Among several neglected sources of the 16th century parlementaire history, the edicts of pacification – issued by the royal power from 1563 to 1598 in order to stop civil wars in France – reveal some important aspects. This article aims at showing that analysing these texts’ content along with the history of their registration and implementation in the parlement of Bordeaux’s jurisdiction not only permits to bring to light on how the institution operated and the main features of parlementaire ideology but also to explain its paradoxical attitude during the wars of religion. Thus, the edicts of pacification turn out to be an original source for the history of sovereign courts and some provincial aspects of the french wars of religion.
