Abstract: The historiography of the religious factor has experienced deep changes for the last forty years while taking a complete independence from ecclesiastic institutions and strongly investing in the academic field. The present orientation is towards new research perspectives such as the analysis of religious practices or devotions, the study of groups and organizations, the analysis of the links between politics and religion while being based on reflections being carried out in neighbouring disciplines such as sociology.
