Abstract: From 1525 to 1773, three main periods may be distinguished during the political and institutional evolution of the duchy and later kingdom of Prussia. First the States of Prussia were very influential. Then the Great Elector did his best to reduce their political importance and establish his own sovereignty. At last, with the absolute monarchy the former duchy was completely integrated in the whole Prussian King’s territory.
