Le paternalisme est-il soluble dans la consommation ? L’encadrement des mineurs consommateurs en question

Marion Fontaine

Histoire, économie & société, 2013, vol. 2013, issue 03, 75-88

Abstract: The coal mining industry is well known for its paternalism, especially in the « Nord-Pas-de-Calais » coalfield, in the XIX th and also in the XX th century. This paternalism aimed to regulate and to moralize the conducts of the coalminers, in the field of the production, but also in the field of the consumption. We would here want to analyse how the employers tried to moralize the behaviours of the miners-consumers in the second half of the XX th century. This article describes the discourses and the practices of the companies but it is also interested in the way the workers resisted these various forms of moral standards, accepted them or sometimes reinvest them accord to their own purposes.
