« Ni bolchevisme, ni nazisme, ni fascisme, ni d’autres farces en -isme1 » Les gendarmes français face à la crise des années trente

Abstract:
Affected by inflation and subject to many frustrations, the gendarmes are looking for a moving professional identity in their policing and military missions. The news also invite them to position themselves in the rise of extremism. From supporter of the Popular Front government and guardian of the Republic to the xenophobic gendarme and admirer of the achievements of Nazi Germany, a gradient of attitudes paves, between 1936 and 1939, the way to a wait-and-see attitude, the rallying to the Maréchal, graduated, passive or active, collaboration or resistance.
