Prêtre à l’heure des bouleversements politiques en Russie

Kathy Rousselet

Revue d'études comparatives Est-Ouest, 2011, vol. 42, issue 03, 163-187

Abstract: Several studies have been devoted to changes in the Russian Orthodox Church following the new legislation on religion in the Soviet Union and then in Russia. Little work has been done, however, on how religious officials perceived the social, political turmoil of the period from 1980 to 1990. A qualitative survey carried out between 2008 and 2011 casts new light on this period through a change of scale. How did these political events, considered to mark a break in Russian history, affect or foster new religious commitments? How did priests experience this upheaval? How was their religious commitment related to the country’s political history?
