Abstract: The article examines the state budget deficit of Bulgaria in the global economic and financial crisis. The objective of the study is to analyze the dynamics of the budget deficit of the Republic of Bulgaria for the period 2002-2013. The values of the budget deficit index for the period under examination are within the limits of the EU requirement – up to 3% of the gross national product. Bulgaria is one of the countries with the lowest budget deficit which is a criteria determining its fiscal stability.
