Abstract: Wine production in Bulgaria in the years after 1989 suffered major losses and negatives. Changes in ownership of farmland caused fragmentation of agricultural land in the country and a huge drop in winemaking. So from a leading position in the production of grapes and wine exports, with good positions in many European countries, Russia, the United States and Canada, Bulgaria became a country almost forgotten in the wine industry. Before and after the accession of Bulgaria to the EU the situation began to change, many projects for modern vineyards and wineries were implemented. In other words, during the socialist period Bulgaria was a symbol of mass production, and today it offers and enjoys high quality Bulgarian wines. This article gives an overview of wine over the years, based on statistical data analyses of the wine industry in Bulgaria for the period 1989 – 2013.
