Abstract: The article analyzes and describes the main essential characteristics of the concepts of leadership and management. A comparative analysis of these two phenomena was made, clarifying the relationship, identity and differences between them. The object of the study is the process of managing interpersonal and professional relationships in the company and the focus is on the leaders and managers with their cognitive, professional and personal qualities. Special attention is paid to innovation and crisis management in the context of the digital transformation of business models. The author's thesis is that the modern leader is not only an individual, but a resource and capital, an intangible asset and an extremely important key factor for achieving competitive advantage and achieving sustainable development.
