Abstract: The main purpose of this study is to indicate Germans’ perceptions and opinions about the concept of the EU and to reveal significant shifts in German citizens’ public opinion by using selected Eurobarometer indicators for the period of 1999-2008. Results indicate that Germans support the membership of the EU throughout the time period but they attached their country more than EU. Their main fear regarding the building of Europe is the transfer of jobs to other Member States with lower production costs. However it seems that EU has a positive and pecuniary meaning for German citizens.
